The Carleton (often misspelled "Carlton") Sheets program is marketed and sold by American Marketing Systems
Inc., under the guise of the "Professional Education Institute". This is important because
in this case, to be fair, the product should be judged separately from the
company that markets it.
American Marketing Systems Inc. (Carleton Sheets) gets hundreds of
complaints per year at the Better Business Bureau. A good company does not let that many dissatisfied customers
get as far as a consumer protection agency - a good company would resolve issues before getting that far. Not good.
We would not say the Carleton Sheets' program is a scam as are many others, but it is incredibly basic - much too basic to
be of much use to someone just staring out. We suspect it is intended to be vague
so that one of their expensive ($2,000-$5,000) mentors is required.
In all fairness, some people have done very well with the Sheets'
program, as long as they buy into the expensive mentoring.
(NOTE: Of all
the real estate courses reviewed, only "The Simple Man's Guide to Real Estate" provides FREE mentoring to all of its clients. And they are the only one whose mentors are
actual, practicing investors).
We have not been able to locate
any user of the Carleton Sheets program who has been very successful without
buying into the expensive mentoring. If you or someone you know has, please let us know (we have
been waiting 11 years so far, and no one has come forward).
With the exception of "The Simple Man's Guide to Real
Estate"®, the mentors for most
other programs, including Carleton Sheets', are not necessarily actual,
experienced investors. The mentoring for most of them is "farmed out" to companies that
hire scripted telephone operators that have never purchased any real estate at all.
If you are dissatisfied with the Carleton Sheets program
and wish to return the product, it is difficult getting a refund, and
when you do get it, it can take months. This, plus multiple billings, is the basis for
many of the complaints and numerous negative web pages about
Carlton Sheets - and the reason we separate the product from the company.
If you wish to check Carleton Sheets out with
any consumer protection agency,
you must look under American Marketing Systems Inc. You should also check him out more fully by
visiting your favorite search engine and type in "Carleton Sheets Scam" (or click this link).
If you are truly interested in really learning how to make money
in real estate, yet pay under $70 and receive the benefit of free, unlimited coaching,
"The Simple Man's Guide to Real
Estate"®, is worth considering. Written by Bill Vaughn, the man who developed most modern "flipping" strategies in the '70's, and who originated the
"reverse mortgage" in 1988 (which has since been adopted by many banks),
the program is comprehensive, simple and their personal coaches are actual, practicing
investors who volunteer (it's free) on a not-for-profit basis to help others.
It is the
only low cost program found that provides free, unlimited coaching from actual
investors. And their instant download (full version) allows you to start
immediately while you await your package in the mail.
Of special note: IntelliBiz, publisher of "The Simple Man's Guide to Real Estate" has a good
record at the BBB. This program is worth a look!
